چکیده
The mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced composites are largely dictated by fiber-matrix interactions, where a well-adhered interface is desired. Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibers suffer from poor interfacial due to their smooth and inert surface. Therefore, enhancing the such will lead an increased use in structural applications high modulus, tenacity, low density, impact abrasion resistance needed. In this work, modification process consisting oxygen plasma surface functionalization followed grafting zinc oxide nanowires (ZnO NWs) onto UHMWPE fiber investigated improve interaction composites. subjected varying treatment durations that content can be ZnO NW adhesion. Through single pullout testing, shear strength (IFSS) functionalized coated was shown maximum increase 135% with 30 s prior NWs. This IFSS attributed area interlocking between matrix. results detailed work demonstrate benign, simple, effective way significantly reinforced

Interfacial Shear Strength of Mwnt / Epoxy Composites and Comparison with Molecular Dynamics Simulation
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted much attention because of their unique structure and remarkable mechanical, electrical, thermal and chemical properties. In particular, it has been believed that CNTs are ideal fillers for polymers to enhance their mechanical properties. Numerous efforts have been devoted to the application of SWNTs and MWNTs to polymers for the last decade [1]. However, i...
متن کاملSynthesis and Tribological Behavior of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE)-Lignin Composites
In this paper, we report the synthesis and characterization of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE)-lignin composites. During this study four different compositions, namely UHMWPE, UHMWPE-13 wt. % lignin, UHMWPE-25 wt. % lignin and UHMWPE-42.5 wt. % lignin were fabricated by hot pressing. Detailed microstructural studies by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that UHMWPE and ...
متن کاملThe compressive response of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibres and composites
Measurements are reported for the compressive response of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibres and laminated composites loaded along the fibre direction. The compressive strength of the fibres was measured by both recoil tests and knot (or bend) tests. The strength of the fibres is governed by micro-kinking of the fibrils within the fibres. The recoil tests suggest that this...
متن کاملMechanical, Rheological, and Bioactivity Properties of Ultra High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene Bioactive Composites Containing Polyethylene Glycol and Hydroxyapatite
Ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene/high-density polyethylene (UHMWPE/HDPE) blends prepared using polyethylene glycol PEG as the processing aid and hydroxyapatite (HA) as the reinforcing filler were found to be highly processable using conventional melt blending technique. It was demonstrated that PEG reduced the melt viscosity of UHMWPE/HDPE blend significantly, thus improving the extrudab...
